Breaking the fast
As the old quote says 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day', I thought I'd break the lifelong fast from blogging and kick-start my lifestyle & travel blog with a post about the BEST breakfast I recently had during my travels to France.
Whilst on a skiing holiday in the French Alps in the quaint little village of Le Grand Bornand, my best friend and I were searching for food one morning when we came across a new little café called 'Shed Café'. It's a small café with a cosy vibe, however we wanted to sit outside as it was a bright sunny day so the waitress showed us to the back patio where the seats overlooked the mountain chain - what a view!
We both ordered the same thing on the menu - Chai Latte with 'tartines' (French equivalent of toast & spread) and when it arrived in front of us we were so thrilled with what we were about to indulge in, I just happened to do a full food photoshoot right then & there! (I've attached one of the photos below :) )
We of course took on the French way of eating; slow & paced whilst enjoying the company! Eating slowly is a great way to savour the flavors of your food and help your body to digest it more efficiently. Here are some tips that can help you slow down when eating:
- Put down your utensils between bites - this helps you to remember to slow down.
- Chew your food thoroughly - the more you chew, the better your food will be digested.
- Take a sip of water between bites - this helps you to slow down and can also help you to feel full more quickly.
- Focus on the flavors in your food - savor every bite and really enjoy the flavors.
- Avoid eating in front of screens - this can cause you to eat faster and less mindfully.
- Pay attention to your body’s signals - when you start to feel full, stop eating.
If you'd like to recreate the 'Tartines' recipe at home, all you'll need is:
- sliced sourdough bread
- a cranberry jam, apple compote & honey
- butter
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
